WINNERS OF THE SUMMER GRANT SEASON
On July 27, the co-founders of the Urban Space 100 public restaurant chose the winners of the summer grant season. According to the results of the voting, 6 projects received financial support totalling UAH 184,464:
1. “Zarady Zhyttia” (For the Sake of Life) — received partial funding for UAH 20,689 (the requested amount was UAH 95,815);
The project of a sewing workshop for sewing camouflage nets and evacuation stretchers for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The workshop has constant requests from soldiers — since its launch, volunteers have made and delivered 15,000 square meters of camouflage nets and 50 stretchers to the front.
2. “SUN Coordination Centre. Electronic warfare means for military units of Prykarpattya” — received partial funding in the amount of UAH 28,000 (the requested amount was UAH 280,000);
The Save Ukraine Now (SUN) Coordination Centre was established in the first days of the full-scale invasion to provide comprehensive support to military units from Prykarpattya on the front line. Currently, one of the priority requests is for electronic warfare (EW) means that interfere with enemy communications between the operator and the weapon with electronic equipment, including enemy drones. Within the framework of this project, the organisation’s participants will purchase equipment for a multi-frequency electronic warfare system.
3. “Charity Fair for the Armed Forces” — received partial funding for UAH 24,000 (the requested amount was UAH 48,000);
An open-air public event to be organised in the centre of Ivano-Frankivsk. The main goal of the fair is to raise funds for the purchase of supplies for tactical medical kits for the Armed Forces of Ukraine: haemostatic agents, tourniquets, bandages, occlusive stickers, etc. The fair will feature a space with handmade products from local craftsmen for sale, as well as a musical program from local bands and performers.
4. “IFKM — Barrier-Free Museum” — received full funding of UAH 33,075;
The team of the Ivano-Frankivsk local history museum (IFKM) plans to install tactile aluminium indicators, yellow warning tape to mark steps and circles to mark glass/transparent display cases, tactile information signs in Braille, and tactile paintings (tactile images of IFKM exhibits) to provide visually impaired people with barrier-free access to the museum’s exhibits.
5. “Online map of power outages and locations with outlets/internet” — received full funding of UAH 8700;
The project team will create a website with a map that will show where electricity is supplied in real time. The map will be created using open data from OpenStreetMap and up-to-date information on power outages from Prykarpattyaoblenergo. The main goal of the project is to help people who work remotely quickly and conveniently find the nearest place with electricity and the Internet on the city map to continue their work.
6. Camp Life Start — received partial funding for UAH 70,000 (the requested amount was UAH 100,000).
A four-day camp for teenagers and their parents, with activities including a guided hike in the mountains, team-building training, and individual sessions with a psychologist. The main focus of the project organisers is on teenagers from families of internally displaced persons, as well as young people from Ivano-Frankivsk.
Thus, the team wants to help teenagers cope with stress and anxiety, provide a space for support and self-expression, and promote the development of the youth movement in Ivano-Frankivsk.
“Urban Space 100 was created specifically to develop Ivano-Frankivsk, to develop initiatives, communities, and civil society. One of the important projects we have supported recently is Camp Life Start. This is a direct support for teenagers who are the future of our country. And they need to feel that the city cares about them, the public cares about them. At the same time, we continue to support the army — this grant season we have allocated more than 30% of the grant fund to help the Armed Forces”, — emphasizes Galyna Hryvnak, co-founder of Urban Space 100.
In total, during the summer grant season, the public restaurant received 12 applications with ideas for social projects.
“This quarter was not an easy one for our public restaurant, and so we want to express our special gratitude to our visitors who treated themselves, bought gifts in our shop, came to events, and ordered delivery. Your presence and support translates into good deeds for the city, giving us the opportunity to support the community even more. We are delighted that the summer grant season has taken place. While the previous seasons focused exclusively on overcoming the consequences of the war, this time we decided to consider ideas from different areas, without restrictions. At the same time, we noted that the focus remains on applications that respond to the challenges of war. Among the winners, you can see a variety of ideas: from helping the military and improving the accessibility of the city to supporting active youth and an innovative solutions — an online map of power outages in Ivano-Frankivsk. Both organisations with many years of experience and initiative groups applying for the first time received support. We are truly concerned about the successful implementation of the projects and invite you to follow us on social media, where we will share the results,” — says Olesya Didyk, coordinator of the Urban Space 100 grant program.
The Urban Space 100 public restaurant was founded in 2014, and the idea for the project belongs to the Teple Misto platform.
80% of the restaurant’s net profit goes to a grant fund to support urban initiatives that develop Ivano-Frankivsk. For almost 10 years of its existence, Urban Space 100 has supported 169 projects totalling UAH 7,332,723.
