Urban Festival "City Scanning Session”
Realized 14.02.2017 - 26.08.2017
15 000 UAH
This is a festival about the city and for the city. In 2017 the theme was "Role Models". The participants were looking for answers to the questions of which is Ivano-Frankivsk, how the city lives according to the internal laws, which features and undisclosed potentials, which models correspond to its development, and how the "imported" solutions can be adapted to local needs. The curators of the ''City Scanning Session'' were more than 20 artists, architects and urbanists from 7 countries: Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Spain, Italy, Germany and Austria.
The festival was held in two stages. In May 2017, a research visit to the city of curators and event coordinators took place. During a few days' stay in Frankivsk, they got acquainted with the urban environment, talked with colleagues and local residents, and eventually presented their subjects, approaches and locations, which later worked during the main part of the festival in August 2017.
Participants from Ivano-Frankivsk and other cities (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Lviv, Uzhhorod, Kalush, Dolyna, Kremenchug, Netishyn, as well as from the USA, Germany, Turkey, Russia, China) under the supervision of artists, architects and urbanists, explored various locations (German lake, Ivano-Frankivsk International Airport, Bystrytsia Railway Station, Promprylad factory, courtyards in the city center, etc.) and problems in the city (the impact of meteorological phenomena on the lives of inhabitants, the importance of markets, the preservation of valuable objects, collective creation of a city garden, etc.). Among the results of the festival are a mobile application, 3D models of city buildings and other objects, brochures, musical performances, excursion program, art works, plantings of plants, objects of street design, etc. An important effect was the networking between the participants of the festival, the idea of possible cooperation for the implementation of urban projects in the future.
In total, the festival participants were about 150 people, and the event was visited by more than 1,600 people.
The Urban Festival in Ivano-Frankivsk is planned to be held every two years.
The project has been partly funded against the claimed amount.
