Steel Spirit project
Realized 04.05.2023 - 31.08.2023
48 900 UAH
The Steel Spirit project was designed to recreate the stories of the courage and resilience of Ukrainian soldiers through portrait photography.
The project involved 30 documentary photo portraits of severely wounded soldiers who were being treated at the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Hospital, representing a cross-section of military personnel from all over Ukraine.
A charity photo exhibition was held in Ivano-Frankivsk and Kyiv to raise funds for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian defenders who were undergoing treatment in the regional hospital and needed treatment for phantom pain. In order to reach the widest possible audience and provide high-quality information about the issue, a website was developed where you can learn the story of the person behind each portrait: https://stalevidukhom.weblium.site
The photos are by the famous Ukrainian photographer Kostiantyn Sova, a military photographer and volunteer who has been helping the victims and the Ukrainian army since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine in 2014.
The project raised UAH 128,000 for the treatment of phantom pain of seriously wounded defenders. Furthermore, UAH 1,000,000 were allocated from the budget of the Ivano-Frankivsk region towards this need. The project urged doctors to work on the issue, develop relevant documents and submit them for consideration to the Regional Council.
The grant from Urban was used to organise the photoshoot and promote photo exhibitions.
The project received partial financing from the declared amount.
